FCC Facilitates the Transition from Copper to High-Speed Networks

New measures intend to modernize infrastructure while maintaining consumer protections.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently announced steps to accelerate the transition from outdated copper phone lines to modern, high-speed networks across the country. These actions are intended to reduce the resources allocated to maintaining aging infrastructure so providers can invest in faster and more reliable services.

“Outdated FCC rules have left Americans sitting in the slow lane for far too long,” FCC Chairman Brendan Carr stated. “Those FCC rules have forced providers to pour resources into maintaining aging and expensive copper line networks instead of investing in the modern, high-speed infrastructure that Americans want and deserve. We are doing something about that today. We are streamlining the process for retiring decades-old copper networks so that providers can transition consumers and their resources to new, high-speed networks on a faster timeline.”

The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau has adopted measures to streamline the copper line retirement process. During the transition, the FCC will maintain consumer protections to ensure that customers have access to comparable or lower-priced services.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chairman Carr to seek God’s direction as he heads the Federal Communications Commission.
  • For members of the FCC as they seek to ensure consumer price protections as they accelerate the transition from copper wire networks.
